The meeting of the National Consultative Council between the federal government and the regional governments is still going on in Mogadishu, which is facing a strong obstacle that has caused the meeting to continue.
Reports say that Jubbaland president Ahmed Mohamed Islam (Ahmed Madobe) is still opposed to the plan agreed by other leaders to direct the country to a unified election of people and votes.
There is also a fear that he will not hold the meeting again today, due to Ahmed Madobe’s decision, as he has not yet changed his position on the extension period that Villa Somalia wants in elections of people and votes.
The President of Jubbaland became a different view than the other leaders, and refused to sign the agreed plan regarding the country’s elections, he came with a different view and conditions.
Ahmed Madobe has rejected indirect elections, suggesting that this year the regional governments should be independent in the elections, as they have not been agreed before, and a longer period of time may create political crisis.
Ahmed Madobe also challenged that the issue of the election should be decided at a meeting attended by the leaders of Puntland and Khatumo states, so that the Darood community has a role in the decision-making table of the country’s fate.
